Indoor Snowballs

Indoor Snowballs

Bring some snow fun inside with indoor snowballs (2 ways)

I just found out that today is called Blue Monday, because it is the most depressing day of the year. The weather is cold and dreary (in most places) and there’s a looming post holiday fog. I’ve got to say I’ve definitely been feeling it. It’s especially hard when with two littles at home. With it being too cold to enjoy being outside, it’s been hard trying to keep everyone out of trouble.

We don’t get much snow where we live, and it’s been pretty cold outside, so I decided to bring some snow fun indoors!

Below you can find a free crochet pattern for Indoor Snowballs. Alternatively you can make your indoor snowballs by making pom poms. Check out this blog post for how to make your own pom pom maker

Crochet Pattern

Materials:

  • Bernat Blanket yarn (or other blanket yarn/super chunky yarn)
  • 7mm or 8mm crochet hook
  • scissors
  • stitch marker
  • tapestry needle
  • polyfil

Abbreviations:

  • mr: magic ring
  • ch: chain
  • sc: single crochet
  • inc: place 2 single crochet in same stitch
  • dec: single crochet 2 stitches toghether (invisible decrease is used in this pattern
  • st(s): stitch(es)
  • PM: place marker
  • FO: fasten off

Notes:

  • Pattern is worked in US terms
  • Pattern is worked in the round without joins, use a stitch marker to mark beginning of round
  • stitch count is given at the end of each round in parenthesis
  • magic ring is used in this pattern, alternatively you can chain 2, then work into the first chain
  • 7mm or 8mm crochet hook can be used, I used a 7mm, but I feel like 8mm is more common and will work just fine

Pattern:

R1: 6 sc in mr- close up ring and ch 1 to secure (6) PM in first st

R2: inc around (12)

R3: *sc, inc* repeat around (18)

R4: *sc 2, inc* repeat around (24)

R5-7: sc around (24)

R8: *sc 2, dec* repeat around (18)

R9: *sc, dec* repeat around (12)

Start to stuff your snowball, do not overstuff

R10: dec around (6)

FO, leaving a little tail for cinching up

If you feel your snowball needs more stuffing, add some now. Then take your tail and tapestry needle and weave through the outside loops and gently pull closed. Weave in your end and you’re done!

Happy crocheting!
